So, let’s talk nails.
I used to only get acrylic nails. I’m talking the $35 dollar long, fancy designed nails that lasted 2 weeks. And then we do it all over again.
Of course, you can imagine that would get really expensive. On a college budget, that’s not really going to happen that often anymore. I totally admire people who can do their own nails, but I’m just not that gal. I’ve tried to give myself a french manicure before and it was one of the most pathetic moments of my life. My 9 year old nephew could have done a better job. I really like to get fancy with my nails so I knew I needed to find something new and exciting.
Enter Shatter Nail Polish…
pretend I’m not wearing acrylics in this photo.
The one on the right is the shatter polish, the left is just plain nail polish.
Soooo…step by step process to making your nails shatter:
step 1: protective clear coat. optional. let dry
step 2: paint on 2 coat of any color regular nail polish. this time I used hot pink. let it dry completely. this is super important. it has to be completely dry. for reals.
step 3: paint on 1 coat shatter nail polish. only 1 coat. don’t mess with it. let it dry completely.
step 4: clear coat on top. I usually do 2 or 3 because I’m obsessed with clear nail polish. the clear polish really makes a difference and makes the shatter pop
That’s it! Be sure to let the regular polish dry before putting the shatter on, it’s super important. Have I said that enough?
Ta da! It’s super fun watching the shatter dry because you get to watch it pull apart and “shatter.”
I went to Pure Beauty a couple days ago and there were a few other shatter colors including white, navy blue, turquoise and silver (maybe more) so you should definitely check it out. Can you imagine all of the fun color combinations you could make with the different shatters and nail polish colors?? I’m obsessed.
I bought the Shatter polish for $8.50. If you find it anywhere cheaper, let us know!
9/4 EDIT*****Yesterday I tried out silver with the black O.P.I Shatter. SO COOL!!
excuse the painted skin-I had literally just finished.
Do you get your nails done or do you do them yourself?

Forever doing my nails myself. From 2 years at drama school where it was banned now i’m like a wild animal pouncing on colours! I love nail polish.
When my friend showed me this at Easter i was just a-mazedddd! Didn’t and still dont know how it works but I dont want to know…its magic in my eyes!

I don’t know how it works either but I’m obsessed! I love painting my nails but I’m terrible at it. I can’t sit still long enough and I always smudge them!
I’ve never got my nails done – i think it’s ridiculously expensive. I am happy doing nails on my own though
Love that you have your own domain now! Looking nice.
Thanks Kiran! I love being self-hosted, I’m so glad I made the switch!
I spend NO time on my nails…actually I’m a biter
…love that color though. Your so pretty!

Aww thank you! I bite on my nails too, but I don’t actually bite through the nail…it’s strange. When I get nervous I find myself biting on my nails but I never actually “bite my nails”
This looks fabulous! I definitely need to try this shatter nail polish!
I work an office job so M-F my nails take a beating. But on Friday when I get off work, I love painting my nails for the weekend! And then Monday, it’s back to naked nails (or clear polish), haha!

You can’t have nail polish at work? That’s a bummer!! My least favorite part of painting my nails is taking off the polish, so removing my nail polish after the weekend would totally bum me out. I hate how long it takes!
