Fit Talk: When Life Gets in The Way of Exercise

Soooo…

Remember when I wrote the post 7 ways I get Motivated to Exercise?

Well…

Lately I’m not so motivated.

Between school, work and coaching cheerleading, I just don’t have time in my day to throw in a workout. I literally spend every second of every day on the go, and when I’m at home I am enjoying that 5 minutes of downtime and trying to do a whole lot of nothin’. Also a factor: I’ve been sick pretty much since school started. My body isn’t used to this crazy schedule, so I’ve constantly been getting sick. It’s dumb.

Confession time: I don’t remember the last time I did a formal workout.

Does this mean I never get any exercise? Nope. I get exercise every day at work and little things in my daily life.

You know what?

I’m okay with it.

I’m already stressed out enough about fitting everything into my schedule, I don’t need anything else to stress out about. I’ve decided not to plan out my workouts anymore. No more pressure, no more scheduled workouts, just exercising whenever the chance comes.

Sometimes planning things out works really well for me, but some days it pushes me in the opposite direction. I feel like right now if I were to make a really great fitness plan for this month (or October) (p.s. can you believe it’s almost October!?!?) I would totally just throw the plan away and watch The Office all day, everyday. By not forcing myself to make a plan, I’m not putting so much pressure on myself. I’m making exercise fun again.

You know that saying “if you fail to plan, you plan to fail?”

Well…for now I’m throwing that away. I’m going to exercise when I feel like it, whenever I can. No stress, no obligations.

Sometimes life just gets in the way, and I’m okay with that.

Questions:

Do you plan out your workouts? Have a set schedule?

What’s your favorite quick workout when you’re in a hurry?

  1. Ohhh I totally know how you feel. But it’s great that you still get exercise on the job and such, so really, think of it as giving yourself a period of rest. We all need that!

As far as quick workouts go, I’m a HUGE fan of Zuzana’s workouts on http://www.bodyrock.tv, have you tried them? They are very challenging, but that’s what keeps me motivated and interested. I went through a big exercise rut where I just COULD NOT get motivated to exercise and if I did show up at the gym… I just wasn’t feelin’ it. I had to figure out something because I sit on my but all day at my desk job – if I don’t make myself exercise, I don’t get any at all unfortunately. Then I stumbled across bodyrock, her workout are only usually 12-15 minutes long! Plus the fact that they’re so tough that I couldn’t even finish them at first made me motivated to keep pushing harder. Now I don’t go more than a few days without them, they are so fun!

Wow that sounds awesome! I’ll definitely check Bodyrock out. Quick but difficult workouts are exactly what I need. Of course, it helps if they’re fun :) Thanks!!
