How-To: Cut a Butternut Squash

This morning I promised you an educational post, but I should have said semi-educational because really, I’m pretty sure it’s impossible to take me completely seriously.

Anyway, I promised you an educational post, and you’re getting an educational post. I keep my promises, people.

Today we’re talking squash.

Hey good lookin’

This, my friends, is a butternut squash. My favorite of all the squashes (yes, according to Google that is correct) in the land.

You may be looking at this squash and think

“How in the world am I supposed to cut that?”

Don’t fret, I have come to your rescue.

Disclaimer: This is not the only way to cut a butternut squash, this is just the way I do it. Please be very careful and only use skills you are comfortable with.

First Step: Buy butternut squash

Donezo.

Second Step: Cut off the top

Third Step: Cut off the bottom

It should now look a ‘lil something like this.

Fourth Step: Cut the squash in half length wise from top to bottom

Fifth Step: Slice squash in half width wise (so you now have 4 parts of squash)

Sixth Step: Take a vegetable peeler and peel skin off top part of squash

Seventh Step: Take a spoon and scoop out the gooey insides of the squash

Eighth Step: Use the vegetable peeler to take the skin off bottom part of squash.

Ninth Step: Cut squash into thick slices

Tenth Step: Dice it up!

Ta Da!

Please please please be careful of your fingers while cutting up a butternut squash…it can get slippery and wobbly. I’ve had a couple close calls! Just watch your fingers and don’t let them get too close to the blade.

So now your butternut squash is all cut up and your wondering what the heck your supposed to do with it…well, that recipe is coming another day. Muahaha! Check back soon for a butternut squasharific recipe :)

Question:

What’s your favorite way to eat butternut squash?
